Intention
When it comes to art, the general public tend to think about painting (with a brush and paints conventionally) as the only skill that artists are equipped with. As for the art world, paintings are more revered and valued (be it monetarily or socially regarded)—a cause that I have come to realize, is effecting the lack of interest or appreciation for the world of print. Hence, I think it is natural to start the learning on a brief history of print (what is considered a print?) and the origins of linocut as a relief print-making technique. The goal of my linocut workshops is to pique the public's interest and to allow participants to learn through doing.

Case Study

In the case of LASALLE College of the Arts' Women in Design workshop, participants were guided through the process of designing their own type (letter) through sketches and implementing the concept of positive and negative spaces into the construction and carving of the plate (matrix).
